Mind boggling coming from an expert (self proclaimed). But surely he has no right whatsoever to change the arms unilaterally ? He can only muse unhelpfully ?
Isn’t it traditional for abdicated rulers not to use their ruling arms, when they are succeeded? I mean it kinda makes sense for there to be some change to the external ornaments.
Since when do bishops stop using their coats of arms when they retire. For popes think “bishop” not “ruler”. In addition, popes only bear personal arms. There is no papal coat of arms used by all popes in the same way royalty inherit royal arms.
